NEW: I get to stay in a lot of interesting places in my travels. Sometimes it’s a dinghy hostel with stained bed sheets. Other times it’s an Irish castle with 17th century tapestries and a butler named Jeeves. I’ve created this series, along with an “eat” series, to better aid Googly Googlers in their search journey to find great places to visit. TripAdvisor is exhausting, after all.
I came to Sunset Bay Resort after having spent a night in Prince Albert National Park sleeping under the stars. The hot shower was the best thing that happened to me since I lost my job in 2010.
Owners Lawrence and Sonnia Minshull are friendly prairie folks who have made this area their home their whole lives. This is the kind of place where you pack up the whole fam jam — along with Skip the dog and ‘ol peg-legged Uncle Joe – and take them on a vacation worthy of kings. Cool summer evenings on the volleyball court. Hot days with legs dangling over the side of the dock. Sunscreen and barbecues and crackling late-night fires with guitar sing-alongs. Oh, my heart.
Accommodations: There are options for both cabins and motel rooms. They’re not exactly luxury, but you’re in rural Saskatchewan for god’s sake. Grow some balls.
Price: Cabins start at $195/night and motel rooms start at $125/night.
