Werd.
My favourite time of year is nigh, the weekend when I can embrace my multiple personalities and dress accordingly. No, this does not mean I will put on a hardhat and prance around in booty shorts to express how sexy I am on the one day I can absolutely get away with it, no questions asked. I like to do things a little more creative.

Still my favourite costume, handmade, and I can’t top it. I’ve reached my prime too soon.
Halloween weekend in St. John’s is a big deal. We don’t even call it “Halloween” – this weekend we celebrate our very own version of Mardi Gras. This is not the Carnival celebration, there are no colourful parades and dancing, no feather boas like the kind you’d imagine, just some very drunk individuals dressed up in costumes on George Street.

BEEE happy.
Yes, other than George Street Festival, Mardi Gras is the other most popular street event. The street shuts down, people pay a cover fee, everyone drinks their faces off, and prizes are awarded to the best costumes.
I’m not a huge fan of Mardi Gras anymore. Maybe I’ll getting old, but late October is pretty cold to be prancing around in a thin costume, unless you’re inclined to drink enough alcohol to block out the pain (guilty!). But it’s St. John’s, you don’t have to go far to find a big celebration, and we do it here with gusto. I’ve spent my day spray painting Styrofoam balls blue and hunting down orange tights. I won’t tell you what it’s all about, but expect pictures.

Another reason to love Mardi Gras.
